Woodlands North established in 2000, is a professional natural resource consulting firm offering services to the forest and energy sectors. Woodlands has offices in Edmonton and Whitecourt, and operations throughout the province of Alberta. We are currently seeking motivated individuals to join our team in the capacity as forest and wildlife technicians. These positions are for a summer term, a practicum work term, and also full time permanent.
Forest Technician: candidates will be well versed with provincial legislation and current best management practices. Project duties include participation in silviculture and forest inventory programs with extensive field work consisting of project supervision and data collection. Overseeing and reporting on programs for vegetation management, forestry site preparation, reforestation programs, growth and yield programs, and forest survey work are all common tasks.
Wildlife Technician: candidates will have the ability to identify a wide variety of wildlife species by aural and visual methods. Wildlife inventories and species sampling includes: fisheries, songbirds, amphibians, remote camera work, pellet/browse surveys, nest searches, playback surveys, and winter tracking. Project work takes place in remote locations. These positions require strong written and verbal communication skills, and computer proficiency in ESRI GIS, and MS office software.
Salaries are competitive based on level of experience, and education. Woodlands offers comprehensive benefits, continuing education, and a flexible work environment. Applicants must be enrolled in or a graduate from, a post-secondary institution and be eligible for professional registration. Applicants must provide a valid class five driver’s license with a clean abstract. Shift work may apply to remote projects.
