Dr. Erin Bayne in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta is seeking a post-doctoral fellow from January 1, 2015 to March 31st. There is a strong possibility of a single year renewal.
The candidate will be working with a multi-disciplinary team that has collated 100’s of thousands of point counts from boreal North America into a standardized database (www.borealbirds.ca). The candidate will be responsible for creating bird-habitat models specific to regions of boreal Alberta. They will then apply these models to understand the relative importance of different industrial sectors and to work with partners to determine the past, current, and future impacts of industrial development in this region. The candidate will work closely with provincial and federal partners as well as interact with industry to understand effects of land-use decisions on boreal birds.
Those interested will provide curriculum vitae, list of 3 references, and an example of their written work. The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in wildlife-habitat modelling at large spatial scales, experience with geographic information systems and mapping, knowledge of the ecology of forest birds, and have applied statistical models to make large scale predictions.
The position will have an annual salary of $55K + benefits.
